Diamond's gentle demeanor and loving spirit as a loyal companion will provide an adopter many wonderful memories with this sweet, mellow girl. She loves to cuddle when you're having an evening at home and she also has a playful side, flipping around a toy or ball. Diamond does just fine in the house while you are away. She will wait, quietly napping, until you return. She rides nicely in the car, patiently looking out the window or lying down. Diamond has age-related hearing loss and will need help adjusting to being mostly deaf in her new home.
Diamond enjoys a nice walk and she loves to sniff all around. She is working on being an excellent leash walker with the help of a front ring harness or a gentle leader, and she will generally walk calmly by your side. A patient and strong handler can help her understand how to react more positively when she sees other dogs.
Diamond would love a home with a quiet yard where she can meander around and then bask in the sun. She enjoys the companionship of other dogs she knows and she is patient in their interactions. Diamond has shown gentleness around children at outreach events. We do not know how she is around cats.
Diamond has age-related hearing loss but she responds well to hand signals and loves treats. She has some decreased mobility due to hip and spinal degeneration but simple-to-administer meds ease her discomfort and water therapy helps her muscles stay limber. Diamond weighs about 47 lbs so her adopter will need to be able to lift her occasionally to get in and out of the car. She has no trouble getting up on the bed to curl up next to you for sweet dreams!
Diamond came to POMDR through the kindness of the Hollister Shelter staff where she was surrendered when her guardians were having a baby and felt they could not also take care of Diamond as their family grew.
